Description
An introduction to Drawn Thread Embroidery techniques, this booklet provides full instructions for a beginner to this technique. The drawing of threads from fabric then embellishing the spaces to produce a lace-like finish has roots in many cultures. Stitches included in this sampler: Antique Hem Stitch, Italian Four-sided Stitch, Coral Stitch, Larkshead Knot, Peahole Band, Wrapping & Needle-weaving, and Myrezhka. The sampler selects a small cross-section of the ‘simple’ drawn thread techniques. ‘Simple’ relates to the single direction (horizontal) from which the threads are drawn. More complex designs can be achieved by drawing threads in both directions, or removing whole blocks of thread to produce windows. These complex techniques are not covered in this sampler, but can be found in other booklets such as “A European Tour of Drawn Thread”, Drawn Thread Sampler: Parts 2 & 3; and other booklets from hte Italian Embroidery collection. Provided in this booklet are: guidance to beginners on fabric and thread choices; three projects aimed at the introductory level; full instructions, photographs, comprehensive stitch diagrams, and all fabric and thread requirements. 38 pages, A5, comprehensive diagrams
